Additional information about Yogi's death: The date should be changed to January 10th. This was added to the obituary by his wife, Judy. "Dick is survived by his wife, Judy, his daughter, Holly and her family Sean, Tanner and India, and his precious 4-legged children, Molly and Andy. He also is survived by four other grandchildren; Jessica, Sarah, Chrissy and Jennifer. "We would like to sincerely thank his team of doctors who kept him going through his seven year fight: Dr. Robert Lum, Dr. Ann Kelley, Dr. Richard Essner, Dr. Bente Berman and the many staff members associated with their practices. "A Celebration will be held on January 19th at Spanish Hills Country Club at 5:30 p.m. in the Men’s Card Room. “A hero is a person who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles”. Dick was my hero!"

It is with extreme sadness that Paul and I tell you of the death of our good and longtime friend, Yogi Hergenrader. Attached is something we wrote this morning: RICHARD (DICK) HERGENRADER Born with extraordinary athletic ability, Richard "Dick" Hergenrader earned the nickname "Yogi" (after the great Yogi Berra) when he was still in grade school, playing sandlot baseball with his boyhood friends in Lincoln, Nebraska. His athleticism was exceeded only by his natural charisma, outgoing personality and sense of humor that lasted for his lifetime. He passed away on January 9, 2012, at home in Oxnard, CA, after a long illness, which he fought like the champion he was. Baseball was his first love and he was coached gently and faithfully by his father, Fred, and cheered on by his mother, Leah. His sports ability was recognized early and he was part of the Whittier Junior High Midget League team that won the Class B Championship in 1951. Dick signed with the Boston Red Sox Organization after graduating from Lincoln High School in 1956. He was an infielder and rose to Class AAA ball and made the major league roster, although he did not play with the Sox. While playing with the Boston Red Sox farm teams, he attended the University of Nebraska and earned a B.S. in Education. He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. After suffering an ankle injury, he was a Manager in the Red Sox chain. He left the organization to join the DuPont Company. He was the National Accounts Manager for DuPont when he retired in 1995, after 31 years with the company. After he retired, he and Judy, his wife of 34 years, moved to the Channel Islands below Santa Barbara and enjoyed golfing at Spanish Hills, a local club, and growing prize-winning roses in the front yard. Dick, as one would expect, was an excellent golfer. At the 40th high school class reunion, he got his first hole-in-one, playing with classmate, Dick Youngscap. While attending Lincoln High School in 1953-1956, Yogi lettered in Baseball all three years. After playing a year on the Reserve basketball team, he lettered in Basketball for two years and was a member of Coach Lyle Weyand's 1954-55 team which had a 17-1 record and was named State Champion by the World Herald on the basis of the season record despite being upset by Creighton Prep 47-42. He was inducted into the Lincoln High Athletic Hall of Fame in 1991 and these are quotes from the website: "Excelling in two sports, Dick "Yogi" Hergenrader played a significant role on four Red and Black teams recognized as State Champions during the mid-1950s. During his senior year, his batting average was .400 as Coach Buford Grosscup's team had an 11-4 record and he provided the leadership for a third straight State Championship." Dick won the National American Legion Batting Title in 1955 with an average of .377 in tournament play. During his high school years, he also played for the Lincoln Optimist Club, which at that time sponsored only one team. The team went on to the quarter finals, even though they were down to 12 players, due to illness and injuries. This is a quote from a 1980 article about the historic 1955 team written in the Lincoln, NE Sunday Journal and Star: "They went down battling though. Hergenrader hit what appeared to be a game-tying homer over the left-field fence against Salisbury, NC, but it curved foul at the last moment. Against Cincinnati, the O's had the bases loaded in the ninth when the Cincy shortstop ended the game by making a difficult play on Porky Oltman's grounder." His wife, Judy, will prepare the rest of the obit including the announcement of a Memorial Service in Oxnard possibly on January 19th.

Problems logging on to the website: I've noticed that when using the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser (IE) that the log on process sometime does not work. Here are a couple of work arounds until I can see if there is a permanent fix. 1. When logging on, click the Remember Me check box. This seems to make it work, plus you won't have to log on each time you visit the site. 2. You can also clear out the IE cookies. While in the IE browser, select Tools/Internet Options. Then click the clear cookies button. This will also fix the problem, but it also clears cookies for all other sites you visit. That means you may have to identify yourself on other websites after clearing the cookies. Larry

Well, this is getting silly. These corrections are for the messages BELOW...not "above."

Thanks to all of you who have requested a password and updated your Profile. On that page, if you DIDN'T check the box that allows your email address to be "seen" by other classmates, you may want to reconsider doing it. That checkmark allows your name to be on the list on the right side of the Home page and classmates can reach up easily. It wasn't clear in the instruction letter. Sorry about that. A question: Were any of you in Chicago at the Democratic Convention in 1968? Are any of you going to either Convention this year?
